What is Respite?

Respite is in-person, temporary care for a youth struggling with mental health symptoms or issues provided in the child’s home or in the community. Respite provides relief for the child’s caretaker and can provide help to deescalate stressful situations. Respite Workers allow for a safe and least-restrictive environment for a child and their caretaker to have a break from each other so they can reunite after a break to collect their thoughts and interrupt any dysfunctional patterns of interaction. Caretakers can use this time apart for their own personal enrichment to focus their attention on their other children.
